Honors Program: A pathway to excellence.

HON 101/301 Earth's Mind

The title, EARTH'S MIND, is taken from Chief Joseph's speech on the eve of the Nez Perce War. His statement was, "The earth and myself are of one mind." There are other minds through which to engage the natural world than the mind of linear, Western Civ. culture, the Native American mind is one such, but the rich tradition of nature poetry and the personal essay are two others. Students will learn about nature writing that is not academic, that comes from and nurtures the personal voice.
