Honors Program: A pathway to excellence.

HONR 191/391 - Honors Forum Fall 2024

Meeting Time: Tuesdays 3:30-4:30.
1 Credit (Pass/Fail; repeatable), stringer.

The theme for Honors Forum this fall (HONR 191/391) will be "Philosophy and Human Values", an homage to a series of public lectures given in the 90s by Duke University philosopher Rick Roderick (you can watch his lectures in his west-Texan accent as he explores what it all means here ).

In the spirit of Professor Roderick's quest to understand what does it all mean (another homage to a nice short book ) by the philosopher Thomas Nagel), Honors Forum this fall will be organized around a series of classic and contemporary readings that explore profound issues relating to aesthetics, morality, politics, language, existentialism, and other fundamental ideas and questions humans have wrestled with over the ages.

Honors Forum is a one-unit stringer where Honors students will have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary discussions, organize and attend campus and community events, and get involved in the regional and national Honors conferences. During your career as an Honors student, you are encouraged to sign up for Honors Forum four times. These credits will count as elective credits toward most majors.
